Prior to my two weeks in Kigali, I had visited over 50 countries (mostly backpacking), so my \u2018a-ha\u2019s were less about the travel experience per se and much more about the profoundly spiritual work involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Helvetica; color: #404040;\">I was called to Rwanda after having attended a large conference at McGill University about the prevention of genocide. But I could not have anticipated how \u201cconducting a needs assessment for a women\u2019s collective trying to get a micro-credit loans program off the ground\u201d would stir in me the deepest, personal reflection about the direction of my life and the contributions I wanted to make with my time, talents and (relative) privilege.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Helvetica; color: #404040;\">I am forever grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with Tubahumurize.\u00a0It was a turning point in my life.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was a volunteer for Tubahumurize in the summer of 2008 \u2013 an experience that changed my life.
